Initiatives

Pacto pela Democracia’s initiatives bring together projects, campaigns, and strategic actions aimed at strengthening Brazilian democracy. Developed in partnership with civil society organizations, institutions, and experts, they focus on protecting the electoral process, countering disinformation, promoting civic participation, and strengthening democratic institutions. By working together as a network, these initiatives seek to expand our collective capacity to defend democracy and contribute to building a more pluralistic and participatory society committed to democratic values.

Better Elections

Pacto pela Democracia’s Better Elections project seeks to strengthen coordinated civil society action throughout Brazil’s electoral cycle. The initiative is grounded in the understanding that democratic elections must be fair, legitimate, participatory, pluralistic, and institutionally protected. It connects different organizations and initiatives around a shared agenda focused on defending and improving the electoral process.

Entretanto Project

A project focused on creating spaces for debate, learning, and exchange among Pacto’s Network organizations, international civil society, academics, and researchers. The initiative seeks to strengthen Brazilian civil society organizations by fostering reflection, connections, and learning about the challenges facing contemporary democracy, while reinforcing the importance of Democratic Culture in their political and strategic work.

Confia Project

The Confia Project is a Pacto pela Democracia initiative aimed at restoring public trust in Brazil’s voting system and electoral process. It analyzes disinformation disseminated during the 2022 and 2024 elections to identify recurring narratives used to attack electoral institutions. In partnership with Aláfia Lab and Instituto Democracia em Xeque, the project develops evidence-based communication guidelines to counter disinformation and strengthen public trust. Its goal is to contribute to a safer, better-informed, and more democratic environment for the 2026 elections.

Guides for Democracy

The Pacto pela Democracia guide series was created to share lessons and methodologies developed throughout the organization’s work defending democracy. The publications address topics such as electoral integrity, advocacy, civil society mobilization, and responses to authoritarian threats. Their goal is to broaden the reach of these experiences and inspire organizations in Brazil and around the world to strengthen democratic practices in different contexts.

Open Chamber Project

The Chamber Rules Reform Agenda is a Pacto pela Democracia initiative aimed at strengthening transparency, civic participation, and democratic governance in Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies. The document proposes ten strategic reforms and four innovations designed to modernize the Chamber and strengthen public oversight.

Strong Democracy Agenda

The Strong Democracy Agenda is a Pacto pela Democracia initiative aimed at protecting the democratic rule of law in Brazil. Structured around eight fundamental pillars, it proposes reflections and guidelines to strengthen Brazilian democracy in the face of authoritarian threats. The Agenda seeks to help prevent events such as the attacks of January 8, 2023, from happening again and to consolidate more resilient and democratic institutions.

Latin American Pro-Democracy Coordination

The global democratic crisis is also having a profound impact on Latin America, a region marked by historical inequalities, institutional distrust, and the rise of authoritarian rhetoric. In response, Pacto pela Democracia is developing an initiative to build a regional pro-democracy network, creating safe spaces for exchange, cooperation, and mutual support among Latin American civil society organizations to strengthen collective strategies for defending democracy.
