What is Pacto?
Pacto pela Democracia (Pact for Democracy) is a Brazilian civil society coalition whose mission is to coordinate and strengthen the country’s pro-democracy ecosystem. Its goal is to counter authoritarian threats, defend the Democratic Rule of Law, and revitalize Brazil’s democratic environment by improving the functioning of democratic institutions and promoting the values and practices that sustain democratic coexistence across society.
Bringing together more than 200 civil society organizations, Pacto is a nonpartisan and ideologically plural coalition that convenes diverse social actors united by a shared commitment to defending and strengthening democracy.
How Pacto Works
We work to protect the rules of the democratic process by influencing decision making processes. Our efforts contribute to safeguarding the Democratic Rule of Law through greater transparency, civic participation, and a healthy balance among the branches of government.
