Pacto pela Democracia Privacy Policy
Pacto pela Democracia is a Brazilian civil society initiative dedicated to defending and strengthening political and democratic life in Brazil. It is a pluralistic, nonpartisan space open to citizens, organizations, and political actors who share a commitment to restoring and deepening democratic practices and values in response to the many challenges the country has faced in recent years.
This Privacy Policy governs the use of the services and features provided by Pacto pela Democracia with regard to personal data.
To protect users’ privacy, we comply with Federal Law No. 13,709/2018, the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados Pessoais – LGPD). 1. Who can join Pacto pela Democracia?
Legal entities and organizations interested in promoting and supporting Pacto pela Democracia’s commitments to defending democracy may become members.
Member organizations are represented by individuals who participate in our communication channels and discussion forums.
If you are an individual who is not affiliated with an organization, you may access the content shared by Pacto pela Democracia and contribute to our work by registering as a project volunteer.
To receive our communications, users must be at least 16 (sixteen) years old at the time of registration. This information will be verified through an express declaration provided by the user.
To join Pacto pela Democracia’s volunteer network, users must be at least 18 (eighteen) years old at the time of registration. This information will also be verified through an express declaration provided by the user.
2. What data do we collect, and for what purposes?
If you are an individual who does not represent a member organization:
When you subscribe to our newsletter through the website, we collect: (i) your full name and (ii) your email address. We collect this data to send you our weekly curated content and information about initiatives carried out by organizations participating in Pacto pela Democracia.
When you subscribe to receive our newsletter via WhatsApp, we collect: (i) your full name; (ii) your telephone number; and (iii) the Brazilian state in which you reside. We collect this data to send you our weekly curated content and information about initiatives carried out by organizations participating in Pacto pela Democracia via WhatsApp.
When you sign up for one of our campaigns, we collect: (i) your full name; (ii) your email address; and (iii) the Brazilian state in which you reside. We collect this data so that you can sign petitions aimed at mobilizing society around issues related to the protection and promotion of democracy. We also use the information provided to subscribe users to the Pacto pela Democracia newsletter.
When you register as a volunteer in our network, we collect: (i) your full name; (ii) your email address; (iii) your telephone number; (iv) the city and state in which you reside; (v) your profession and the organization, movement, or collective in which you participate, if applicable; (vi) your gender; and (vii) your age. We use this data to build a database of people interested in and willing to contribute voluntarily to Pacto pela Democracia’s initiatives, which may be tailored by location and subject matter based on the information provided during registration.
When you register to attend a Pacto pela Democracia event, we collect: (i) your full name; (ii) your email address; (iii) your Brazilian identity card number (RG) and individual taxpayer registration number (CPF), in some cases; (iv) the organization of which you are a member, if applicable; and (v) your telephone number. We collect this information to organize participation in the event, determine the number of attendees, prepare the necessary facilities, send participants additional information about the event, grant access to the venue, and subscribe participants to the Pacto pela Democracia newsletter, which provides information about other events and initiatives similar to the one they will attend.
If you are an individual representing a Pacto pela Democracia member organization:
When you request that your organization join Pacto pela Democracia, we collect your email address, the name of the organization and its representatives, the location of its headquarters, the locations in which it operates, information about its international activities, if applicable, its areas and methods of operation, and links to its social media accounts. We collect this information to integrate the organization into the Pacto pela Democracia network and promote joint action in support of the network’s values and objectives.
When you join one of our WhatsApp groups, we collect your telephone number and full name to enable communication among the organizations participating in Pacto pela Democracia.
When you join one of our email groups as a representative of a member organization, we collect your email address to enable communication among the organizations participating in Pacto pela Democracia.
3. Do we share your data with third parties—that is, people or organizations outside our team?
We may share some of your data with third parties in two specific circumstances:
a. When newsletters are sent by email, your registration data is shared with the platform used to distribute our weekly content; and
b. When events are held, it may be necessary to share participants’ data with the venues hosting the event so that physical access can be granted.
4. How long do we retain your data?
If you are an individual, we retain your data for as long as you remain registered in our database. You may request that your information be removed, after which we will delete your personal data.
If you represent a legal entity that is a member of Pacto pela Democracia, we will retain your contact information and information about the organization you represent for an indefinite period or until you request the deletion of your data through one of our communication channels.
5. What security measures do we take to protect your personal data?
We restrict access to our databases to members of the organization, use a Virtual Private Network (VPN), and ensure that:
(i) users’ data is stored in a secure environment;
(ii) unauthorized third parties cannot access the database; and
(iii) access to the data stored by us is monitored and controlled.
Nevertheless, it is important to note that security incidents involving personal data have become increasingly common, while the methods used by malicious actors have grown more sophisticated. Pacto pela Democracia will take every reasonable measure within its power to prevent such incidents, but unfortunately cannot guarantee the complete and absolute security of your information.
6. What are your rights as a data subject?
At any time, you may request the deletion of your information from our database, the removal of your contact details from private messaging channels, including email and WhatsApp, and the termination of communications from us through any channel.

7. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This version of the Privacy Policy was last updated on March 22, 2022.
We may change the rules set out in this Policy at any time, particularly to reflect changes made to the website or the introduction of new features.
Whenever we update this Policy, we will notify you of all changes.
